1. How to create a New Segment
What is Segmentation
Segmentation is the process of creating segments – in this case, dividing a body of data about customers into subgroups according to different parameters. This enables the user to analyze the data, and extract specific information to help target customers more efficiently.
1.1 Naming a Segment
- Press the segments tab on the left-hand side menu.
- Press the "New" button on the upper right-hand side of the screen.
- Press the Segment option in the dropdown menu to create a new segment.
Under the title "CREATE NEW SEGMENT," fill in the details of the segment you wish to create (Fig. 1)
What are Filters
Filters are how the segments are defined and created. Filters determine what information will be filtered out as irrelevant, and what information will remain. A good filter sifts out all the irrelevant data, leaving only the desired information.
1.2 Creating a Filter
- Press "+ Add Filter" button to start adding filters.
In the dropdown menu, choose the type of filter you wish to add: "Or/And Group." The default option is "And" (Fig. 2)
Choose which fields to add:
Member attributions à Registration Date à Registered "In the last 30 days" (Fig. 3)
1.3 Calculating Segment Size
Before saving the segment, you can calculate its size. On the right-hand side of the screen, press the "Calculate segment size" button (Fig 4).
1.3.1 Static/Dynamic Segments
It is also possible to choose between a static segment or a dynamic segment. In a static segment the number of members in the segment will not be updated over time. The default option is a dynamic segment, in which the number of members is updated according to changes over time (Fig. 5).
1.4 Defining Communications Channel Permissions
It is possible to block communications of different kinds to members of a certain segment.
To block all communications to members of the segment, click on "Any channel." To define specific channels to block, click on "Select channels," and choose the communication channels you wish to block from the dropdown menu (Fig. 6).
Creating Segment 1.5
On the upper right-hand side of the screen, press "Create" (Fig. 7 a.)
The new segment will appear on the list of all the segments under the name of the chosen group.
Example: Segment "RND in the last 30 days" (Fig. 7 b.) under group "Solitics Test" (Fig. 7 c.)
And "Solitics Test" on the list of groups of segments (Fig. 8)
